Energy needs

How to know if your dog is highly active Highly active dogs are those that do a lot of walking, racing, hunting or working.

As you might imagine, highly active dogs expend more energy than most. They can be divided into two groups. The first are working dogs that do any of the following activities: racing, hunting, sledding, rescue missions or agility, jumping or other competitive activities. The second are those dogs that come along at the weekend when you go for a run, hike or other sports activity. Regardless of the activity your dog does, he will expend more energy than dogs that are not highly active. Make sure you adjust his food intake to meet his needs based on activity duration and physical effort required of your dog.

Nutrients and energy

During physical exercise, your dog's heart rate speeds up to send oxygen more quickly to his muscles so they can perform well, which

requires energy. Where does this energy come from? The nutrients found in his food. In other words, your dog needs food that is rich in easily assimilated nutrients to maintain the endurance he needs to keep going. He needs a mix of fat, protein and a few carbohydrates.

Why?

  • Fat is a very dense energy source that is easily digested by your dog.
  • Protein, found in meat, for example, repairs muscle tissue and helps get oxygen to the muscles in highly active dogs (replenish blood, prevent muscle fatigue)
  • Carbohydrates - like sugar - provide little sustained energy.

You will find all these essential nutrients in the entire range of OUTDOG 500 PREMIUM products to give your dog the energy he needs.

The OUTDOG 500 range: 100% energy !

Remember that just like any true athlete, your dog needs to drink lots of water. Water is vital for elimination and getting rid of toxins that build up in his muscles during physical activity.
