Whether he's in an outdoor race or going hunting, your dog expends more energy than most. His diet needs to be tailored to those needs. His well-being depends on it.
The basics
He needs a high-quality diet that covers his energy needs. It should be a balanced diet that includes all essential nutrients (fat, protein carbohydrates and vitamins) in amounts that vary depending on his activity level.
Feeding him what you eat or letting him eat whatever he feels like is not the way to go. Table scraps and other treats should never be part of a highly active dog's diet…
Highly active dogs need a specially formulated diet that is high in energy
A dog that takes part in strenuous activities burns two to three times as much energy as those that take it easy. That said, his stomach is incapable of digesting three times as much food! He also needs more protein, fat and carbohydrates than inactive dogs but in reasonable quantities. Unless you are an expert in animal nutrition, planning a athletic dog's diet is a complicated task. At Solognac, we have that expertise, which is why we've developed the OUTDOG 500 PREMIUM range.
Remember:
It's best to choose a food that is specially formulated for "highly active dogs". It is easier to give proper rations of this type of food based on the size and activity level of your dog. Each bag of OUTDOG dog food has a ration table to help you choose the appropriate amount for your dog:

Don't forget about proper hydration
Making sure your dog stays hydrated during and after exercise is of the utmost importance. Water is essential for elimination and is the main component in muscles.
Remember:
A dog weighing 20 kg that eats dry dog food needs to drink more than a litre of water per day. In general, a dog should drink about 50 ml of water per kg of body weight. It is also important that your dog has plenty of water available. You should regularly check how much water he is drinking.
