Solognac feeds mountain rescue dogs

Among all the sorts of sports dogs fed with Outdog, there is a very particular type: mountain rescue dogs. They symbolise an intense effort made in extreme climate conditions and require a diet which keeps them in the best possible shape.

Partnership with mountain rescue dog handlers

This partnership, of which we are very proud, allows us to acquire further knowledge on the most demanding aspects of canine nutrition.

Rodolphe Queyrel, a member of the ski patrol and dog handler at Serre Chevalier, explains:

"I am a member of the ski patrol at the Serre Chevalier ski resort. I specialise in mountain rescue dog handling. I have had this job for about fifteen years, and now have my second dog, a seven-year-old male Alsatian. I guide my dog so that he can find people who are buried under the snow in a hostile environment (cold and altitude). It is my job, but it is first and foremost my passion...

Training sessions with my dog can be broken down into two main periods: on the one hand, in summer and autumn, weekly training sessions with physical preparation and work on olfactory ability. On the other hand, in winter, we do weekly training sessions in the ski area, with live-scenario avalanche simulations to look for buried people. We must be ready to act at all times to save lives, since we intervene about ten times every season For someone buried under the snow, every second counts!

That is why training is essential, but not sufficient alone: my dog requires specific food to be 100% strong at all times.
